R Mukundan

Managing Director and CEO

R Mukundan is the Managing Director and CEO of Tata Chemicals.

An engineer from IIT Roorkee, he joined the Tata Administrative Service in 1990, after completion of MBA from FMS, Delhi University. He is also an alumnus of the Havard Business School.

During his 26-year career with the Tata group, he has held various responsibilities across the chemical, automotive and hospitality sectors of the group. He serves on executive committees of various industry forums viz the Confederation of Indian Industry, Bombay Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Employers' Federation of India, All India Management Association, etc.

John Mulhall

John Mulhall

Chief financial officer

John Mulhall is chief financial officer of Tata Chemicals.

He joined Tata Chemicals in 2007 as the European finance director of their recently acquired subsidiary, Brunner Mond (UK), followed by positions in Tata Chemicals North America Inc., (VP and CFO) and Tata Chemicals International Pte in Singapore (CFO) before relocating to Mumbai in 2015.

Prior to Tata Chemicals, Mr Mulhall worked in finance for various UK manufacturing companies.

He is a graduate of the University of Strathclyde and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland.

Rackanchath Nanda

Rackanchath Nanda

Chief human resources officer

Rackanchath Nanda has completed his post graduation in human resources and has also done several professional certifications and executive development programmes.

Mr Nanda has over three decades of rich experience in human resources across varied sectors like manufacturing, trading, retail, consumer durables, FMCG, telecom and services. He started his career with the Murugappa Group in Chennai, where he spent nearly 15 years in a variety of roles – in human resources and also as the head of manufacturing and commercial for the foods business. He has also led the human resource function for Amara Raja Group and the Dubai based Landmark Group.

Mr Nanda joined the Tata group in 2006 with his first role being at Tata Communications (formerly known as VSNL). He moved to Tata Chemicals in May 2012 and currently oversees the global functions of human resources and administration, business ethics and communications. He is also a trustee on several of the company's social sector initiatives like TCSRD, Okhai and Uday. Nanda is a professional member of SHRM, NHRD and NIPM and also represents the company and industry in several forums within CII, BCCI and EFI.

Rajiv Chandan

General Counsel & Company Secretary

Rajiv Chandan is a fellow member of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India, and has a masters' degree in commerce and a law degree from the University of Mumbai.

Mr Chandan heads the legal, company secretarial and corporate governance functions at Tata Chemicals. He has 25 plus years of experience in the areas of legal, company secretarial, corporate laws, litigations, corporate governance, compliance, mergers and acquisitions and divestments, including cross-border M&A transactions. His experience is spread across diverse industries, including the paper, automobiles, logistics, cement, chemicals, FMCG and fertiliser sectors.

Before joining Tata Chemicals, he was vice president – legal and company secretary, Lafarge Cement, India.

India Operations

Zarir N Langrana

Zarir N Langrana

Chief operating officer, chemical strategic business unit, Tata Chemicals

Zarir N Langrana is the chief operating officer of the chemical strategic business unit (SBU) of Tata Chemicals and is responsible for its operations and growth in India. He also serves on the board of the international subsidiaries of the company.

In the past, Mr Langrana has headed the global marketing and strategy function — overseeing and directing all sales and marketing plans, developments, growth and new product activities and processes in these two areas for its global chemicals business across the four continents where it operates. In addition, Mr Langrana has led the post-merger integration programmes within the chemical SBU.

Prior to this assignment, Mr Langrana headed the corporate strategy and business development function and was a key player in the global inorganic growth of the SBU and in the M&A process. He has been with Tata Chemicals for over thirty years, having been inducted through the Tata Administrative Services.

Mr Langrana is an economics graduate from the University of Madras and holds a post graduate qualification in business management from XLRI, Jamshedpur. Mr Langrana has attended advanced executive development programmes at Harvard Business School and other institutions.

Mr Langrana is an active participant in various industry bodies and trade associations in the country and abroad.

 

DK Sundar

DK Sundar

Chief operating officer – urea business

DK Sundar, chief operating officer – urea business, has an experience of more than 35 years in diverse set of industries including paints, steel, glass, plant protection and industrial chemicals, in addition to the crop nutrition industry.

His association with the Tata group has been for the last 15 years and his previous assignment was in Rallis India, another Tata group company, as its chief financial officer.

In his current role, he is responsible for the urea plant at Babrala, the Centre for Agri Technology at Aligarh and the sale of all agri inputs in the northern part of India, including DAP, MOP, specialty nutrients, customised fertilisers, seeds, crop protection products, etc., in addition to urea. He also handles the advocacy related issues for both plants and the traded business.

Till the recent announcement of the urea business sale, he was responsible for both Haldia and Babrala plants in addition to the traded business with a total top line of about $1.2 billion.

 

Richa Arora

Richa Arora

COO, consumer products business

Richa Arora, currently the COO of the consumer products business at Tata Chemicals, is an MBA from IIM Ahmedabad and a Chevening scholar from the London School of Economics.

Richa has more than 25 years of wide-ranging experience in FMCG marketing, strategic planning and communications. She has worked across many brands, consumer segments and industries, as also in highly competitive markets like foods and consumer durables.

Prior to joining Tata Chemicals in 2014, Richa had set up Five by Six Consulting in 2008 – a boutique strategic marketing consulting firm, advising companies like McCain Foods, Britannia and Wipro Consumer Care. Before Five by Six Consulting, Richa was the head of marketing and innovation at Britannia Industries. She has also previously worked in leadership positions at Balsara Home Products and Draft FCB.

Besides building businesses, Richa is an avid photographer who in addition to solo exhibitions has also exhibited at the India Art Fair.

International Operations

Dr Martin Ashcroft

Dr Martin Ashcroft

Managing director, Tata Chemicals Europe

Dr Martin Ashcroft is managing director of Tata Chemicals Europe. He was appointed on April 1, 2010, having been the operations director since January 1, 2007.

Holding a chemistry degree from Oxford University and a PhD in inorganic chemistry from Manchester University, he held several technical and operating roles in Brunner Mond between 1994 and 2007 including site director of the company's Netherlands site for two years.

During this time he led two business re-engineering programmes for Brunner Mond.

In January 2011, Martin led the company in completing the successful £93 million acquisition of British Salt and then followed up in April 2011 by heading the re-branding of the enlarged company as Tata Chemicals Europe at the same time as each of the Tata Chemicals overseas entities.

Between 2013 and 2015, he designed and led the fundamental restructuring of the management team and Northwich-based operations which included the acquisition and investment in the 400MW combined heat and power (CHP) plant, previously owned by EON.

He is an executive board member of Tata Chemicals Europe Holdings and several subsidiary companies. He is a member of the Tata Global Chemicals Board (GCB) where he leads on Tata Chemicals' interests in Europe.

He is a member of the Cheshire and Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) board and board member of the Chemical Industries Association.

In 2016, he was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC).

He is qualified to Grade 8 standard on violin, piano and organ, and plays regularly at choral services and occasional recitals.


Jack Muchira Mbui

Jack Muchira Mbui

Managing director, Tata Chemicals Magadi

Jack Muchira Mbui is currently the managing director, Tata Chemicals Magadi, and also a member of the board.

He has previously worked with G4S Kenya, a subsidiary of G4S plc as the deputy managing director. Jack also served as the general manager – car and general, for four years and as production manager at Coca Cola.

He is a registered engineer with the engineers registration board and a member of the Institute of Engineers of Kenya (IEK). Jack founded the Courier Industry Association of Kenya (CIAK) and was its founder chairman for a period of 10 years. He also serves as a council member of St John ambulance.

Jack Muchira Mbui served as a representative of G4S in the governing council of the Kenya Security Industry Association (KSIA). He is a fellow (FKIM) of the Kenya Institute of Management and has also served on the institutes' governing council.

Jack holds an MBA in strategic management and a B.SC in mechanical engineering from the University of Nairobi.


Martin Keighley

CEO & President, Tata Chemicals North America

Martin Keighley is currently the CEO & President, Tata Chemicals North America, and also a member of the board.

Martin Keighley is currently CEO of Tata Chemicals North America, responsible for its US operations along with Tata Chemicals Soda Ash Partners, its partnership with O-I, the world's leader in container glass. Martin serves as an executive director on the Boards of Tata Chemicals and the Partnership, along with a number of other subsidiaries and joint ventures.

Holding a Chemical Engineering degree from Cambridge University, Martin joined ICI, where he held various roles with ICI and then Brunner Mond in Engineering, Production management, Marketing and General management before leading the acquisition of Akzo Nobel's soda ash business in the Netherlands. After two years working in Holland, where he led the integration of the business, he returned to the UK as Commercial Director and then Managing Director when Tata Chemicals took over the business in 2005. After leaving Tata in 2007 he took a year's sabbatical which he spent back-packing around the world with his family before becoming CEO of an early stage technology company, focusing on water purification, out of the University of Manchester.

Martin re-joined Tata Chemicals in the US in 2013 to take up a new role as CEO of Tata Chemicals North America and its Mining and soda ash operations in Green River Wyoming.

Martin is active in a number of industry bodies and trade associations and is currently serving on the Governor's ENDOW Advisory Board for the State of Wyoming.
